Windows xp mup sys hang

If you dont have one, borrow one from a friend hopefully. Then boot from the windows cd. When you get to the first screen, select R for repair. You need to type in this command. It might take hours. It just takes TIME to fix the errors.. After that I could boot into safe mode ok. Hope this helps.. And make sure your bios is set to boot from CD before booting from Hard Drive. Good Luck. After some work I have at last found a solution - but I still don't really know what the exact cause of the problem is.

Problem 1 :: Windows XP hangs when loading the mup. After trying removing every singel unneccesary item from the computer and disabling everything in the bios - the problem remained. The install disc even hung when no HD was present. I tried updating the BIOS without effect. At last I used F5 to acccess the hardware settings when loading the XP install disc. Now I only wonder why the problem didn't arise the first time I installed XP? And who is to blame for the problems?

I had this problem as well it turned out not to be the mup. I changed the 1 to a 0 and viola LOL Note to self do not answer tech questions before your first make that third cup of coffee.

Hi bob.. Glad to lend some assistance.. I had this exact thing happen to me. I was on the phone with Microsoft for a while and what I described before was what the tech told me to do. I had alot of other problems going on at the time too, but that got me to at least boot back into windows. IF, Big IF, you get an install cd, when you get to the "recover" screen, after you do the scan, try also a few other commands.

I hope im right, as its been awhile since ive done it, but i think its, "fixmbr" I have a Windows XP computer that will not boot normally or boot in safe mode. It hangs at the loading of mup. I have tried booting to the XP installation CD but when it loads up there is not a repair option. The disk is SATA. Upgrading to Windows 7 right now is not an option. Any suggestions? If all went well, it should work fine. That being said, you should test the hard drive to see if it is failing while hooked up to the other machine.

Seems to be a common problem accordingly to google. Give the link above a quick read. Might have a solution in there for ya. It's a long time ago, but I seem to recall that it isn't actually the file that's displayed that's the problem, it's the one that comes after it that it's hanging on.

I'v had it quite a bit. Unplug or remove any peripherals or PCI cards you can and see if it will load. There is some minor HD activity with maybe 3 or 4 blips. Usually the mouse laser cycles at this point but goes out. You have the classic Windows XP frozen at mup. The variation on this is that instead of XP being frozen at mup. Both cases can be considered the same issue as we address them here. Many users have run into this problem and there are many different causes and just as well even more solutions.

This shows as a hang at mup. So, What happens after we see the mup. It then starts these components possibly causing more draw on the power supply.

Consider here the load of non-self-powered USB devices. If there are any unrecoverable problems here, that will cause the system to hang and it will look the same. The main reasons for this Windows XP or Win boot hang or alleged mup. In my experience, I have never found that the mup. Also, disabling the mup. Windows will then just hang at the driver that loads prior to mup. If you are curious and want to know more about this driver check out the What is MUP. SYS and what does it do?
